What cookies are
Cookies are small text files placed on your device when you visit a website. They are widely used to make websites work, to support core functionality, and to provide information to website operators.
Cookies can be 'session cookies' (deleted when you close your browser) or 'persistent cookies' (which remain until they expire or you delete them). They can also be 'first-party' (set by the website you are visiting) or 'third-party' (set by another domain).
How we use cookies on this website
We aim to keep cookie use on this website minimal. We use cookies for two main purposes: keeping the website functional, and (with your permission) understanding how the website is used so we can improve it.
When you first visit, a cookie banner asks you to choose. Your choice is stored locally in your browser. You can change it at any time using the Cookie preferences link in the website footer.
- —Strictly necessary cookies: required for the website to function — form submission tokens, security, your accessibility preferences. These can't be turned off because the site won't work properly without them.
- —Analytics cookies (Google Analytics 4 + Microsoft Clarity): if you opt in, we use Google Analytics for aggregate usage statistics and Microsoft Clarity for anonymised session replays and heatmaps. Both help us understand which pages need improvement. Google Analytics has IP anonymisation enabled, Google Signals disabled, and uses Consent Mode v2. Microsoft Clarity is not loaded onto the page at all unless you have granted analytics consent.
Third parties that may set cookies
We disclose every third-party service that may set cookies via this website. We are the data controller; the third parties listed below are independent controllers or processors of the data they collect through their cookies.
- —Google Analytics 4 (Google Ireland Limited / Google LLC). Cookies prefixed
_ga,_ga_*. Used to count visitors and understand site usage in aggregate. Retention: 14 months. Only fires if you opt in. Google's privacy policy. - —Microsoft Clarity (Microsoft Corporation). Cookies prefixed
_clck,_clsk,CLID,MR,SM. Used to record anonymised session replays and produce heatmaps — page interactions only, with sensitive form fields and personal data automatically masked by Clarity. Retention: up to 13 months. Only loaded onto the page if you opt in via the cookie banner. Microsoft's privacy statement.
Your consent choices
When the banner appears, you have three clear options. Reject is always as easy as Accept — that's a requirement under UK PECR rules and we follow it.
- —Reject all — only strictly necessary cookies are set
- —Accept all — necessary plus any optional categories you've seen in the banner
- —Customise preferences — toggle each category on or off individually
Global Privacy Control
If your browser sends a Global Privacy Control (GPC) signal, we treat that as a clear instruction to opt out of non-essential cookies. The banner won't appear and only strictly necessary cookies are set. You can still open the cookie preferences from the footer to grant consent if you change your mind.
What we do not use
We do not currently use third-party advertising cookies, retargeting cookies, social-media tracking pixels, or cross-site behavioural advertising on this website.
If we ever introduce such cookies in future, we will update this policy and ask for your consent where required.
Managing your cookie preferences
You can control or delete cookies through your browser settings. All major browsers allow you to view, delete, and block cookies for specific websites or all websites.
- —Chrome: Settings → Privacy and security → Cookies and other site data
- —Firefox: Settings → Privacy & Security → Cookies and Site Data
- —Safari: Preferences → Privacy → Manage Website Data
- —Edge: Settings → Cookies and site permissions → Cookies and site data
Impact of disabling cookies
Disabling essential cookies may cause parts of the website to stop working — for example, the consultation form may not submit correctly. Disabling analytics cookies has no impact on functionality.
We do not penalise visitors for disabling cookies. The website will continue to be accessible — some optional features may not work as smoothly.
